Nine teams battled it out at the annual Learning Community Tag rugby competition, to decide who would progress to the area finals.
Initially, the schools played in a pool of 3, to decide their progression to the next stage of the event. Winners of the pools battled it out to determine positions within the Learning Community. Holbeton, Ugborough and Stowford found themselves in competition for the top spot. All the games were hotly contested and with some very close matches, it was Stowford who claimed the top spot, with Holbeton hot on their heels. After Ugborough, Woodlands came in fourth and, potentially, all the top four teams have a chance to compete in the area finals next month.
Stowford coach, Natahsa MacIntosh, said, “There were some extremely close games and there was no doubt how much the honour of a place in the next round was important to all of the schools competing today. It was an extremely tough competition. We were very grateful to all the boys from the ICC rugby squad who gave up their time to come and referee today’s games, as well as all the parents and families who came along to support. We were incredibly proud of the Stowford squad, who gave it “their all”, and delighted that they emerged as overall winners today. We know we have to keep working hard if we want to progress to the next round.”
